We all suffer from concepts of what church is to be, what church is to do, how church is to act. The wrong concept that people have is that a church is a place where people meet rather than a group of people that gather at a place. That is more than just semantics, there is a big difference.
Because if we start seeing the church as a place where people meet, then we are going to always be looking for the right kind of place that suits us. But if we start seeing the church as a group of people, selected out of the world by Christ, then we are going to be evaluating what kind of people are we to become for the glory of God. It is not a place, it is a group of people. But as people, we must be not only believers but belongers. We belong to a group of people growing together.
But what does Jesus want His church to be?
In John 17, there are four things that Jesus prays for us, the church,
what He wants us to become.
In Part-one. I mentioned two of them, That is:
1. The church should radiate the glory of God.
That is, we are to ever pointing to God, to Jesus. It is not about us, it
is about Him, our relationship with Him. Our love and obedience for
Him. That is our first priority.
2. The church should reveal the truth of God.
Jesus says, “I have manifested them your word.”
So as we gather, we are always centering what we do around the
revelation of Jesus Christ through the word of God.
There are two more things that the church ought to do,
ought to be, ought to become:
3. The church should rescue the enemies of God.
4. The church should rally around the love of God.
